Olympic Quality Sailing

Very few places can offer the sailing facilities available in the Llyn Peninsula. The area was recently nominated as the olympic sailing area as part of the Manchester 2007 bid. The quality of sailing in the area is very high indeed with a backdrop of breathtaking scenery.









The sailing waters around Pwllheli are amongst the best in the U.K. In Cardigan Bay tidal streams are weak, winds are stable and the scenery is superb. Snowdon and the Welsh mountains providing a magnificent backdrop for any water sport. Sailing Events which have been held in Cardigan Bay include the National BT Match-racing Finals, the Optimist Nationals, Firefly Nationals, Hornet Nationals and the J24 World and European Championships, GP14's Nationals, Topper Nationals, Scorpions Nationals, Laser 2 Worlds, Osprey Nationals, Flying 15's Nationals, RS Championship, One Ton Cup/ IC45 Worlds, 1720's Europeans As a cruising base Pwllheli provides a secure harbour, accessible in all weathers and most states of the tide. The West Coast of Ireland can be reached in less than 12 hours sailing, and Abersoch, PorthMadog, Barmouth, Aberdovey, Aberystwyth and New Quay can be reached within a few hours.

Madoc Yacht Club is situated in the beautiful, panoramic harbour of Porthmadog, Gwynedd, North Wales. The club takes a pride in being a friendly, socially active club that welcomes boating visitors at all times of the year.

SCYC sits on a cliff top at Abersoch, North Wales overlooking St. Tudwals Islands and Cardigan Bay, towards Snowdonia. The sailing venue is amongst the best, with National, European and World Championships often held here.

Bala Sailing Club is set on the NE end of Bala Lake giving access to one of the most picturesque sailing waters in Wales. The mainly Southerly winds provide excellent sailing conditions and the well equipped clubhouse and training room make Bala SC one of the most popular sailing venues in the country.
