Walking, Rambling & Hiking The Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia together have dozens of well documented, tried and tested walks to suit all abilities. From testing mountain routes to gentle, scenic coastal walks.
In the woods at the start of the walk you will come across the grave and a memorial of this last Liberal Prime Minister of Great Britain. It’s a spot where he loved to sit. The walk through the woodland by the Dwyfor riverside is as good as woodland walking gets. The Dwyfor’s crystal clear waters chatter to the rocks below and in spring the forest floor is carpeted with primroses, bluebells, garlic and wood anemones. Criccieth Castle stands on a huge volcanic crag that juts out into Treamdog Bay.

This route heads for the rugged gills forming one side of the great Aberglaslyn gorge that has graced many a postcard. At the back of the car park you can pass under the railway bridge that belonged to the Welsh Highland Railway and pass the site of an old crushing plat here, copper ore from the mountain would have been prepared for shipment, using the railway. Beddgelert is a pretty village with a fine two-arched bridge spanning the Glasyn and a handful of busy craft shops and cafes.

Seen from the valley of the Glaslyn, Cnicht is a splendid pyramid of rock. The Knight as it is known, looks an impressive mountain from the valley. This walk includes a mild scramble on the final approach to the summit. Cnicht has two tops, but the nearer one is the highest . The grassy ridge is a delight to walk, and wherever you look you see a sparkling tarn.

A climb to Siabod’s rocky summit gives you the best view of Snowdon. It’s an exhilarating climb on easy rock right to the summit, and the view of Snowdon is as good as you’ll get, for you can see the whole of the horseshoe and all the major peaks. Glyder Fach’s bristly rocks and Tryfan’s distinctive buttresses add a little spice to the view across Nant Gwryd, while the rolling Carneddau fill the rest of the horizon, here you will see all the 3,000ft peaks without having to turn your head.
