The changing face of Criccieth
Although Criccieth enjoys its own micro-climate, being at the end of the Gulf stream and sheltering in a bay surrounded by tall mountains, we do sometimes get the odd bit of rain! Whatever the weather, Criccieth is a beautiful place to visit, crashing waves or mill-pond seas. To the right you can see a few stills from the webcam showing a varied look across the bay from Criccieth beach.
Be sure to watch out for:
Dolphins Feeding right into shore, you'll often see dolphins during the warmer months of May to September
Porpoises Like the dolphins, visible in the warmer months (much smaller, and darker in colour). Porpoises are quite a rare sight compared to dolphins, so do watch out!
Surfers (when it's rough seas) Cold, wet and miserable weather is no deterrent to the hardened surfing set, to be spotted catching waves just off the jetty.
Yachts (on sunny days!) Many yachts and smaller craft visit Criccieth for the day in the warmer months, mooring up and enjoying the picturesque setting.
Jet skiers Whizzing about in all conditions (but mainly in the summer). Criccieth doesn't attract many jet skis, but you will occassionally spot one.
Lifeboat launches Criccieth lifeboat launches right in the view of this webcam. Keep your eyes peeled during the exercise dates (see the forum for these dates) and you never know, you might even see a real 'shout' going on! |
